Dear Class of 2019 Pt. 1

So Monday is my first day of school and I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. But more so nervous because being a freshman, well sometimes you just don't know what to expect, so I asked different people going into high school some questions they had about high school and things they wanted to know, and then I teamed with 6 different bloggers, asking each the same questions, giving you real answers, so you can know what to expect your freshman year. I will be breaking this done into 3 parts, so the post isn't extremely long. So here's part 1.
Carly from The College Prepster

How do I approach the fear of public speaking?
Practice! The more you speak publicly, the easier it gets every time.

The schools says I'll have 2-3 hours of homework is that true?
I say that's pretty typical! I would make it your routine to do your homework right when you get home so you're not up late.

Will Google really be my best friend?
Maybe! I'd try to do your research in textbooks and from class notes. Google can be helpful, but you don't want it to turn into a crutch.

How do you balance extra curricular and academics?
I did crew, yearbook, and chorus in a big way and a few smaller clubs here and there. I loved everything I did so I always found time for it!

Do I really need a ton of school supplies?
Your teachers will let you know what you need.

Is it true that all athletes are players?
I think that's a stereotype.

How do I find my own crowd?
You'll figure out who you "click" with!

What should I wear to football games?
Something in school colors!

Is it true high school will be filled with the most drama ever?
Only if you make it filled with drama! Surround yourself with good people and you won't have any problems. If you don't want to be a part of the drama, you don't have to.

What do you consider the 'High School Experience'?
I think a big part of it is finding your independence, pushing yourself academically, and having safe fun with friends.

If an upperclassman hangs with me, do they really like me, or are they messing with me?
Depends, use your judgement! I had a handful of friends who were older! We were in chorus and yearbook together.

Does high school parties really look like the ones in movies?
Probably not.

Are you able to go to homecoming each year?
Depends on your school!

What was high school like for you?
It was really fun and also a little stressful. I took academics really seriously! But I'm glad I participated in chorus and yearbook electives. They are my favorite memories from high school!
Sammy from Preptista
How do I approach the fear of public speaking?
- Public speaking skills come with practice. It can be very scary at first, I’m not gonna lie, but the more you do it, the more natural it will come. I would say run for different student government positions at school and join a Debate Team or Mock Trial team! I ran for as many positions as were available to me just to get the practice of giving speeches and I was a part of my school’s Mock Trial Team. I really feel that both of these contributed to strengthening my public speaking.
The school says I'll have 2-3 hours of homework, is that true?
- Homework hours really vary depending on the classes you take and how much you’re willing to put into your schoolwork. My school said we had a minimum of three hours, but some days I was done in one hour and others I would work for six or more when my friends only spent two. When you have a test coming up, the hours increase because you most likely will be studying for the test on top of homework for that class and other classes. I generally never had more than three tests in a day, but that was a little bit brutal. If you end up taking AP or Honors classes as an upperclassman, then you will definitely have a more intense homework load because those classes are just more demanding, but it really is what you make of it.

Will google really be my best friend?
- Google was really helpful with homework because you can pretty much find the answer to any worksheet or textbook question by literally just typing it into your browser.

How do you balance extra curricular and academics?
- Balancing extra curriculars and academics is definitely a challenge sometimes, but the key to doing it is finding what your passions are and following them. It is better to be deeply involved in two or three extra curriculars than to spread yourself thin across every club your school offers. Colleges also prefer this too, so it will really help you in the long run. If you don’t like the idea of being class president, don’t do it just because you think it will “look good,” because at the end of the day it won’t matter unless it meant something to you. I participated in Mock Trial, started and was President of my school’s Fashion Club, and maintained my blog. At the end of the day college counselors appreciated that I followed my passions instead of trying to be the “prefect college candidate.”

Do I really need a ton of school supplies?
- The amount of school supplies you need really varies on how you plan to keep yourself organized. I liked to have a 1” or 1.5"  binder for each class, one or two notebooks, plenty of loose leaf paper, and a pencil case full of black and colored pens.

Is it true that all athletics are players?
- It isn’t true at all schools that all athletes are players, but it really depends on the size of the school. If you go to a really big school then not every athlete will play, but if you go to a smaller school then the coach will generally try his/her best to give each player at least a little bit of time.

How do I find my own crowd?
- Finding your own crowd takes time. My advice is to be open to everyone because the people you think you have the most in common with may not be the best people to be friends with. Also, don’t be shocked or sad if your friend group changes from heart to year, I went through three friend groups before I found my best friends and it’s kind of a funny joke between us because I am so different from all of them, but I couldn’t imagine having any other friends.

What do I wear to football games?
- My school didn’t have a football team, so I can’t speak from experience, but whenever I went to a football game at the nearby all boys-school I would either wear a sweatshirt for that school with jeans and sandals, or I’d wear a tee-shirt in the school colors with shorts or jeans.

Is it true high school will be filled with the most drama ever?
- High school is filled with petty drama, but the drama at my school was pretty mellow since we were all girls. You’d think it would be worse, but you’d be shocked at how much the drama decreases when you remove boys from the equation.

What would you consider the 'High School Experience'?
- The High School Experience is different for everyone. I consider the High School Experience making memories you won’t forget with really good friends.

If an upperclassman hangs with me, do they really like me, or are they messing with me?
- I can’t really predict whether an upperclassman likes you or is messing with you, but I had friends who were upperclassmen and I’d like to think the really did like me!

Does high school parties really look like the ones in the movies?
- Honestly I’ve never been to a “high school party.” I went to after-parties after my prom and my friend’s prom senior year, but those were really just like a group of my friends all getting together with like 20 people. I personally wasn’t big on partying because to me high school was mostly about getting good grades and getting myself into college.

Are you able to go to homecoming each year?
- My school didn’t have a homecoming, but I’m pretty sure most schools let you go to homecoming every year.

What was high school like for you?
- Overall my high school experience was great! My senior year was by far my favorite year and I made the best friends and the most memories. Even though senior year was super demanding between academics and college apps, I had more fun that year than any other year by far
Til part 2!

Geometric Vibes, Dooney & Burke, and Chili's

Sunday for my birthday I went out with my best friend, Fanatasia, to Chili's for dinner. It was so fun just to go out and laugh with her, then after that we went to this amazing Frozen Custard spot called Goodberry's. So yeah you could say we had fun, but before all that we went to church and that's always fun! After church Fantasia and I didn't know what we wanted to eat, so us two and few other members of our church were just listing a whole bunch of places in the nearest shopping center, White Oak, to eat. Finally after naming places in White Oak and outside of White Oak, we settled on Chili's.  So here's a recap of my outfit and then we'll hop into the dinner part.
I absolutley love my geometric shift dress, it's cute, and simple. Plus it's great for cold and warm weather! This is my first time wearing it in the summer, I wore it twice in winter with tights and ankle boots.  I styled the dress with Dooney & Burke ( thanks, Mrs.Amy) bag, and with pearls to complete the classy look.

I ordered a Cajun Chicken Pasta with Blackberry Tea.

She was focused on her food!
Then I enjoyed and Cookie Dough Custard from Goodberry's!
I had SO much fun and I can't wait to do this again and share it with you guys!

Also KJP has also had an effect on me, I love the cute bow bracelets and the Atlantic Pearl Collection is absolutely adorbs!

Meet Katie from Chic in Carolina

I can honestly say this is my first summer blogging, and it has been the busiest summer ever, I just thought of this, but it has literally been a summer of bloggers! I have been working with lots of bloggers all summer, and more interviews still coming your way! But after interviewing Carly from The College Prepster, it's like I now love interviewing bloggers! Okay enough with me.

So , this time, I have teamed up with the wonderful Katie from Chic in Carolina, who is also from North Carolina! I did an interview with her and she is absolutely sweet and amazing and I love her interview and trust me, you will too! I love reading her blog because it really puts a smile on your face, really it does! You have to check it out!

So here is the interview!

  • Tell us something about yourself
    • Ok, so I’m Katie and I’m a sixteen year old high school junior from North Carolina! I’ve lived in NC since age 4 and can’t imagine growing up anywhere else!

  • When did you start blogging and why?
    • I started blogging this past March. I read blogs for the longest times and began thinking of starting my own last summer! I went back and forth for a while but decided to go for it!

  • What impact does blogging have own your life?
    • Blogging has had a large impact on my life! I love having something to work on other than my schoolwork and I love how I have met so many other great bloggers around my age through it!

  • What do you consider your style?
    • I consider my style as very preppy and nautical!

  • What's something you cannot leave the house without?
    • I can’t leave my house without my Kate Spade tote. I always keep my sunglasses and phone plus some other necessities in there!

  • What's your top 3 favorite brands?
    • Okay this is a hard one but Lilly Pulitzer for all of their colorful prints, J. Crew since it is classic, and Tory Burch for their amazing shoes and accessories!

  • Kate Spade or Lilly Pulitzer? Why?
    • Lilly Pulitzer! I love Kate Spade as well but Lilly is definitely my favorite brand and I find myself wearing Lilly more often because of the fun prints and stylish designs! I love KS but I find that it is a brand that I splurge on!

She clearly love Lilly more, plus loving this outfit!
  • How would describe yourself/personality?
    • I would probably describe my personality as positive and upbeat. I really try to focus on being positive and all even in hard times. I’m sorry this isn’t a great answer, I’ve never really been asked to describe my personality!

  • What's your favorite quote?
    • “Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen"

  • What's the craziest thing you've ever done in your life?
    • Haha, I haven’t really done anything super crazy! Probably water tubing in Upstate New York or getting lost in a corn maze at night with some of my best friends!

  • What do you do when your not blogging?
    • Haha, love this question! When I’m not blogging, you can find me shopping, at school, hanging with friends, teaching a Religious Education class at my church, in the kitchen baking, or probably netflix-binging One Tree Hill!

  • When are your favorite places to shop?
    • My favorite places to shop are Lilly Pulitzer, J. Crew, J. Crew Factory, Tory Burch, Nordstrom, Loft, Gap, Target, and Lululemon!

Countdown to My Birthday: Starbucks Run

So this week has been really crazy, and I haven't been able to post my Enfiniti's Lust which I will be posting soon!, early than usual. But if you didn't know my birthday is coming up, so I will be doing a countdown to one of my favorite days of the year, my birthday. It is currently 10 days and I'm so excited because I will finally be the same age, 14, as all my friends and they can no longer pick o me, altough they are about to be 15, it's still really exciting, plus 4 days after will be my first day of high school! So yeah this month is by far my favorite.

So here are some pictures to show how my mom surprised me on my countdown.

She took me to Starbucks and got me a caramel frappacino, it's really fun to go on my first starbucks run with my mom, we we're actually in line forever because my mom couldn't decide on what she wanted but she setteled with a caramel mocha.

She was struggling to get out her money, and we ordered my four year old sister a cake pop, and it was not a good idea, but cause she was super duper hyper the entire ride to my grandma's house. As you can see she's swinging around a water squirt around in the back seat.

And of course I had to snap a photo of me enjoying this amazing beverage, I was so in love and happy, my sisters' kept asking, but I'm being extremely selfish this month, don't judge me.

So it's 10 days to the big day! Comment your birthday and when you go back to school below!
