Friday Fives

So I now I have been a little MIA blogging this week, but I had to share with you guys my Friday Fives. This week I have literally just been busy and well reading but I do have things in store for the blog.
****
1// Abby from Belle of the Ball's Rainy Day Outfit. I absolutely love the rain jacket and belt she wears, and the combo overall all is amazing. #rainydayfashioninspo
2// Yesterday on I reviewed two of my current favorite books, and you guys should go check it out and maybe read the books yourselves.
3// Carly from The College Prepster's Wardrobe Staples! It has all the basic closet items for any go-to outfit or an everyday essential.
4//  So I just found this out, but Isabella from Yep It's Prep, has teamed up with KJP and created Camp YIP, which helps raise money for the Little Star Foundation. I think it's absolutely amazing and aspiring and you should go check it out and donate or purchase a sticker while you're at it.
5//  So last Thursday I was snowed in until Tuesday, and I was bored out of my mind so, I got in bed and started binge reading TSM ( Total Sorority Move) columns, and I laughed so freaking hard. I can't relate to them all but them all but there were a few I had to admit to; 41 things I'm supposed to hate, and things all girls are obsessed with.

Enfiniti's Good Reads

So lately I've been getting back into actually sitting down and reading. I've always been a reader, I love reading a lot, it's like my favorite thing in the world... There's nothing better than losing yourself in a book. So in the past week I have finished two books that are absolutely amazing, so I had to share them with you guys. I will worn you know I'm addicted to drama filled, hopeless romantic teen, chic-lit books... So if that's not you, then I wouldn't recommend the following to you.

1. To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

So Jenny Han is absolutely my favorite author along with James Patterson, Sara Sheppard, and Joanna Philbin. I love every book I've read by her and still in the process of reading some. But this book is about Lara Jean who wrote love letters to five guys she loved in middle school, and she keeps them in a hat box. One day the letters get sent out and Lara Jean is forced to face three of them, one being her older sister, Margot's, boyfriend, Josh. In order to avoid confusion and conflict with her sister and losing her Josh as a friend, Lara Jean starts to fake date Peter K., another guy she loved before. In this fake relationship Lara Jean start realizing a lot of things, and turns out that everything is not what she thought it was. She ends up falling in love, getting hurt, and uncovering secrets that made her naive.

2. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaiporta & Dhonielle Clayton
Two words. Ballet. Drama. I'm head over heels with this book and here's why. So there's three top dancers at the school; Bette ( who is a legacy), June ( who is extremely tiny and graceful, but always an understudy), and Gigi ( who moved from California, and was just really good, always landing lead roles & has a health condition that she's trying to hide). Bette and June will do whatever it takes to become Prima Ballerina, whatever it takes to be on top, and whatever it takes to have the guy. Gigi is blinded by all the drama, until she is targeted for her talent and roles, and soon ends up in the hospital. There's also Will, who you won't read his perspective of the story, who is in love with another male dancer and knows things that Bette did to get her kicked out of company for good, as well as few charges. Same goes for Henry. From glass in pointe shoes to seducing the director for a spot, this book will have you on edge.

Hope you enjoy!

Interview with Caitlin from Your Typical Prep

So today I interviewed Caitlin from YTP, and I love her blog so much. Her blog is so cute and relaxing and her outfits are just adorable. So I decided to interview her and give y'all a little extra insight on Caitlin!
*****
How would you describe yourself and personality?
I tend to err toward the creative side of things – I always try to bring creativity to everything I do. I always look for motivation and I’m pretty passionate about my goals. I’d also like to say that I’m more outgoing than I really am, but then again, who wouldn’t?

When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging in the summer before my junior year in high school – that would be around June 2013. I didn’t know the world of fashion blogging had so many niches until I discovered “preppy” fashion blogging, mainly through Carly Heitlinger’s blog – The College Prepster. I followed her and others for a while until I decided to start sharing my own outfits and other posts. I’d always loved fashion and writing and pairing the two seemed like the perfect fit for me!

(I love this picture so much!!)

How has blogging impacted you as a person?
There are the generic expected ways - making new friends, improving my writing skills and photography, etc. But the largest, and quite honestly most unexpected, is the pressure it puts on portraying my life through social media. Essentially, everything I post is another piece of creating my personal “brand.” It’s still an odd concept to wrap my head around – I always have to think more than twice about what I’m going to post and if it fits my brand.

How do you maintain a successful blog?
I always try to remember why I blog; I want to share my adventures and photos with the world and as simple as that sounds, it can be hard to remember sometimes. It’s easy to get caught up in thinking you need to stick to a rigid posting schedule or put out only half-great content when you think you need to put up at least something. I’m able to maintain my blog as long as I stick to my original goals.

What are your go to resources for blogging?
I try to keep up with a myriad of blogs to stay inspired. I also always go to Pinterest when I’m feeling a little less creative!

What blog do you highly recommend for others?
Carly of the College Prepster is wonderful, as is Sarah Vickers’ Classy Girls Wear Pearls. I also love following Julia’s adventures on Gal Meets Glam and Mackenzie’s outfits and interior design tips on Design Darling.

What is your inspiration in life?
Passionate displays of creativity keep me going. I love following people who continue to think further outside the box than most.

What's your aspiration in life?
To end up with a career that changes every single day. My biggest fear is probably ending up at a desk job where I do the same thing day by day. I want to be passionate about what I do.

What would you consider your style?
I tend to stick to inspiration from New England prep in the 1950s and 60s, but with a modern twist.

What are your top five favorite items in your closet?
My J. Crew field jacket, any navy and white striped shirt, white chino shorts, a cobalt Lilly Pulitzer dress with gold beads around the neckline, and my Ray-Ban Clubmasters.

What can you not leave the house without?
  My camera!

What’s one thing you want to do before you leave this world and be remembered for?
My not-so-secret dream is to write a book or produce a movie that leaves a lasting impression on people.

Be sure to keep up with Caitlin:

Friday Fives

So Happy New Year! Who's survived their first week of 2016?! So I know I haven't posted much this week due to school but I have lots of thing lined up for this month. So this weeks links are some things that I've found extremely interesting or just am beyond in love with!
***
1// Abby from Belle of the Ball's Tartan and Top-Knot outfit post. I loved the combo so much and her boots are so cute! Definitely a outfit post for an OOTD inspiration.

2// Classy Cathleen turns 2! If you haven't read Cathleen's blog, Classy Cathleen, you're missing out. Cathleen is a very sweet girl and open minded and her work is original and fun to read. My favorite post from the blog is her Christmas tree outfit for Merry + Bright Link-Up. The pictures are so fun and adorable and it's just her being her and that's what I love about Cathleen! So congrats Cathleen!

3// Macy from Peonies and Passports Warby Parker Holiday Post. Macy's blog is super interesting and classy and she also includes her traveling adventures as well. I love the Warby Parker post because Warby Parker are classic and timeless and so was the outfit she paired with them.

4// Kate Spade launches a Yoga Line. I was so excited because lately I have been doing A LOT of yoga and if you didn't know Kate Spade is my all time favorite brand! So this was like a plus for me. So if you're a yoga person and Kate Spade lover you should go check this out.

5// Also love looking back on 2015 for the blog, here's some of my favorite posts of 2015. 4 more months till the blog turns 1!

6// Okay so I lied it's more like 6 this week! But Coachella has released the 2016 lineup. It's supposedly the best lineup yet and I wish I could go so so bad! Some artist I saw lined up that I love were: G-Eazy (of course), Jack Ü, Girlpool, Goldroom, Purity Ring, Zedd, Snakehips, The Chainsmokers, The 1975, and much more.

Interview with Maggie from Maggie Royce

So today for the blog I interviewed a local from NC, Maggie from Maggie Royce. Her blog is super amazing and if you haven't checked her out you should because it's also very inspiring. Maggie has a really loving and down to earth spirit about her based from her answers and blog, and I just really love her blog and her instagram, her instagram is amazing so also check that out. So below I've provided you with an interview with Maggie from Maggie Royce.
***

How would you describe yourself and personality?
Hi, my name is Maggie Royce a high schooler from NC. I love super nerdy dance parties and finding new books to read. I have a huge sweet tooth and love baking different goodies for friends and family. On the weekends I help to teach cotillion classes which are ballroom dance and etiquette. My Netflix show of choice is Parks & Rec but I am a sucker for any cheesy romantic comedy movie. All around I’m a very optimistic person who loves puns and making others smile.

When did you start blogging and why?
I began blogging the summer my family moved to North Carolina and I was in the third grade. Then I didn’t really have any friends because I was new and I’d always loved writing stories so my dad set up a blog for me (and blogging wasn’t nearly was big as it is now) & I have been going ever since. It’s evolved throughout the years but is still the same girl writing and I love having a space for others to read what I’ve written.

How has blogging impacted you as a person?
I truly couldn’t imagine my life without blogging. Because I have been writing for so long it seems so natural to me to just sit down and type out a 400 word post. Thanks to the internet I’ve been able to travel, speak at events and some of my best friends are friends I’ve met through blogging. In addition to that I have had the ability to grow as a writer, as writing is a real love in my life, learning and growing with all of it on the internet.
My favorite blog posts to write are the super wordy posts where I’m just spilling my thoughts out on to the keyboard and those actually end up being some of my most popular. When I am real and vulnerable I’ve received emails, texts, messages and tweets from people around the world telling me how the different writing impacted them and that’s really crazy & amazing to hear as a fifteen year old girl.

How do you maintain a successful blog?
I’ve been blogging since 2009, so for almost half of my life which is crazy. The biggest piece of advice for any blogger is to not do it for anything else other than a true love of writing/photography. Constantly I see girls conforming and trying to gain followers by being incredibly fake & it kills me. I’ve learned to take breaks from blogging when I don’t love it, like I did towards the end of last year. This past summer I was pretty much only blogging so when high school began in the fall I couldn’t prioritize everything and lost a love for blogging. I didn’t blog for awhile as sad as that was but I’m glad I didn’t. In that time I wrote a book with the help of NaNoWriMo, an experience I highly recommend and really enjoyed my time embracing high school (won homecoming princess!). Now have a new love for blogging getting back into it which is exciting and fun.

What are your go to resources for blogging?
I’m not sure if I have “resources” per se but I’m always looking for guidance or new ideas on Pinterest. I also rely on my mom and best friends, they all read different blogs and are my go-to when I’m working on any kind of project for different thoughts.

What blog do you highly recommend for others?
One of my favorites is The Peanut Butter Lover (thepblover.com) written by a really good blog friend Katharine. While her blog is not a “fashion” blog and our styles are completely different her blog is by far one of my favorites I’ve ever read. She gives a down to earth, real and authentic look on life and her adventurous instagrams/tweets are so inspiring!

What is your inspiration in life?
I think my inspiration and motivation comes from my faith which is my backbone.
(this question was really difficult sorry)

What's your aspiration in life?
I’d love to do whatever makes me happy. It’s hard to predict what I’ll be doing for the rest of my life at age 15 but I can assume writing has something to do with it.

What would you consider your style?
When describing my style I tend to not like using the word “preppy” as “preppy” has easily became associated with the southern look of tee shirts, nike shorts which I do love but it doesn’t describe ME. My style is very classic but still youthful and feminine. I primarily shop at thrift stores so my style is reflective of that. I do occasionally love some trendier items but stick to bright colors of pieces I’ll wear forever.

What are your top five favorite items in your closet?
  1. One of my all time favorite pieces is a patchwork brightly colored Brooks Brothers blazer. I bought it at a thrift store for $15 and it screams warm weather. I love wearing it with skirts and wedges for different events come spring time and North Carolina’s weather can be moody so it’s perfect.
  2. As I was on my school’s homecoming court I had to get a long dress to wear for crowning. Because I don’t have that many formal events to attend I found a brightly patterned Lilly Pulitzer maxi dress at a thrift store that was absolutely spot on for the event. It was incredibly youthful and different, making me feel even more like a princess.
  3. When I received my first paycheck a year ago I was so excited and had saved up previously earning it that I decided to spend it on a pink Kate Spade bag I had been drooling over for three years. It was at Nordstrom rack over half off and it is still my baby to this day. I don’t bring it all the time but it’s the perfect size to hold my DSLR or to carry notebooks in.
  4. My mom purchased my glittery gold tulle skirt on a whim from Boden a year or so ago and it is one of the most worn pieces in my wardrobe. It’s super easy to dress up for big events but still relaxed to wear for school presentations & all around makes me feel like a princess.
  5. I know I’ve said it a ton but thrift shopping is my love, I found a vintage two piece red and white floral outfit for $2 and it is so chic. It is a not short crop top and high waisted pants with beautiful fabric buttons down the back. I wore it for the fourth of July this year and it is absolutely beautiful.

What can you not leave the house without?
Quite simply my phone, it goes everywhere with me regardless. Also I absolutely cannot forget a protein bar, the Quest brand is my favorite because I cannot focus at all if I don’t eat!

What’s one thing you want to do before you leave this world
I would love to definitely go on a few mission trips to countries or work with some ministry before I die. Currently right now mentorship with younger girls is a huge love of mine so hopefully continue on with that.
